BRC has strong relations with various organisations in Sweden. Our longest relationship with any donor is with the Africa Groups of Sweden (AGS). This organisation worked tirelessly to end apartheid, and is now committed to poverty eradication in democratic South Africa. BRC has been privileged to have a close, multi-facetted relationship with AGS for about twenty years. One of the most recent, exciting developments in this regard is that we are concluding a partnership agreement with the Africa Group based in the Swedish city of Gavle. Amongst other things, this agreement will enable a vibrant exchange programme involving people from our two organisations as well as community representatives. Over the past five years, we have developed good relations with the Färnebo Folk High School based in the southern city of Göteborg. We received two groups of Swedish students annually, who are tasked with making practical contributions to our work in Cata (which we call the ‘foot-print’ of Färnebo in Cata). Our objectives in this regard are twofold: to challenge North-South conventions, and to build a new layer of Swedish activists. Our current students are Malin Askhamre and Gustav Svensson.Click here to view their blog. |
